Bruce A. Sutcliffe

The MetalCraft Kingfisher/Umiak 29 was originally designed as a replacement alternative for the Inuit Umiak (freighter canoe). It was designed specifically for the harsh Arctic environment which features inhospitable landing sites, varied ice conditions, but most notably an absence of service and product support.

The all-aluminum craft built by MetalCraft Marine Incorporated, of Kingston, Ontario was purchased with the help of a generous grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. This is QSARís first purpose-built rescue vessel.

This vessel is dedicated in the honour of the late Lieutenant Colonel Bruce Sutcliffe, DSO of the Hastings & Prince Edward Regiment. Lieutenant Colonel Sutcliffe was the WWII Commanding Officer of the Regiment when the HastyPs landed in Sicily on July 10th 1943. He was killed by German artillery fire as he prepared the Regiment for the assault on the hill top village of Assoro a few weeks later.
